40

The transportation sector emits 40% of the greenhouse gas emissions in Massachusetts, the single largest source and the only source that continues to grow.

300

As part of a bi-coastal regional collaboration aimed at rapid adoption of the cleanest vehicles, MA has committed to placing at least 300,000 ZEVs on the road by 2025.

80

80% of the state’s gasoline cost leaves Massachusetts, pulling resources out of the state that could otherwise be used to support households here.

Zero Emission Vehicle Definition and Terms

Zero Emission Vehicles (ZEV) includes Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) powered solely by an electric battery, Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV) powered by a combination of an electric motor and a gasoline engine, and Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEV) fueled by hydrogen.

The term Plug-in Electric Vehicle (PEV) is a subset of ZEVs and includes both PHEVs and BEVs. These terms may apply to cars, vans, all size trucks, buses, and off-road equipment like commercial lawn care products or material handling equipment.
